  1. Hi, I’m a former rider who trained with Richard Keller in Woodside in the 1970s and showed hunter/jumper at the little shows around Northern California. I’m now doing research on a book about the horse scene in those days, when Silk n Satin, Tie n Tails, Ruby Tuesday and a bunch of other hunters did really well at Richard’s Foxtail Farm. (And when Gary Ryman was tragically killed.) The characters include Champ Hough, Jimmy Kohn, and other stars — of course including Bernie Traurig (as well as George Morris and others back east). I’m hoping to interview some of the great riders who came out of California in those days. (P.S. I actually tried to get a job as a groom with Bernie: In 1977 I rode a Greyhound bus 11 hours to his farm in Ohio, and braided one of his horses as a try-out. I didn’t get the job, but it was a great experience!). Thanks, Mr. Traurig, for your amazing work. I’ve been a fan from afar for decades. — Amy Linn
